We have been aware for years that the 'family filters' on the computers of most colleges, schools and public libraries are set so high that most of this website is blocked by them. Certain words that we must use on the site (can't mention them here, obviously, or this page would be blocked too) are classed as pornographic. You'd be very surprised to learn what they are. Sometimes this site is barred altogether, in which case intending visitors don't even get this far. We recognize the need to have fairly strict filters in schools and public libraries, but we think it's a shame that staff in the art departments of colleges are deprived of the useful information on this site. From our point of view, the development of RAM as a truly national rather than just London-based organization is hindered to a considerable extent by the blocking of our site. If you find you can't reach the 'Joblink' and 'RAM Members Online' sections, or the RAM Guidelines, don't just give up and forget about us, because there are several things you can do about it ! 1. You can access the site from your own computer at home. 2. You can have a word with whoever is in charge of Internet access at your college. Whatever they may tell you to the contrary, they CAN arrange to have the site de-restricted. 3. You can access the site from a mobile phone, if you have Internet access on your phone. 4. As a last resort, we can probably fool your employer's filter for you. Try going here - BUT PLEASE NOTE: the site will come up at first as though on a mobile phone - plain text only. You will then need to click on 'View HTML' at the bottom of the page to see the site as it really is. Don't tell anyone about this, or they'll clamp down on the trick we use! |
